Eduardo Fausti - Reflections on Sound

Reflections on Sound is an exhibition of evocative monotypes by Eduardo Fausti, comprising abstract and intuitive meditations on nature. Fausti is an established printmaker who moved from New York City to Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands in 2015, becoming bi-coastal. Fausti finds inspiration for his works on long walks on the island observing nature, the night skies, and the Salish Sea. He is able to perceive more delicate sounds compared to his east coast urban environment, such as the trickling water in barely detectable creeks, the chattering of hidden songbirds, and the rustling wind as it sways through the Douglas firs and island habitat. He finds monotypes to be his chosen medium to spontaneously express, in a painterly manner, the beauty and sounds of the pristine environment around him. He accomplishes this with a more abstract approach. Monotypes are unique singular prints where the image is transferred to a piece of paper from an un-etched surface (plexiglass in this case) and then run through a printing press. At times, boundaries are blurred between the artist’s intent and delightful unexpected outcomes, which creates a sense of freedom in Fausti’s artistic process of interpreting nature.
