John Lysak - Musings and Memories

Musings and Memories is an exhibition of new works by Olympia-based artist John Lysak featuring acrylic paintings, watercolors and monotypes. Included are landscapes from Lysak’s travels, explorations around the home, and candid portraits of people and animals. Lysak examines his immediate surroundings for inspiration and creates studies from local life while appreciating vernacular adventure, and sometimes drawing and painting in a plein air tradition. Several of the images are reflections on places and memories of the artist from many years or decades ago, influenced by forgotten vacation and family photographs. Some pieces are drawn from road trips to Oregon, Idaho, Eastern Washington, the Columbia Gorge and the Olympic Peninsula. Others are more personal—a view from the artist’s kitchen window where he looks across Bud Bay to the Cooper Point Peninsula in Puget Sound.
