Rebecca Luncan - New Paintings
Coming from a background as a figurative painter, Luncan has come to embrace that the subjects in her still life paintings on metal may be invested with deeply personal meaning. Each item tells a story—of handling centuries-old porcelains, of growing up among farmland and flowers, or of sharing her love of living things with her son. These compositions pay homage to Northern European still life of the Dutch Golden Age of painting (~1600-1800). During the last year, we have seen our world turned upside down. The experience of the pandemic is full of both lack and overwhelm, of too much yet too little. This work seeks to foster a sense of plenty; to build a sense of gratitude by expressing abundance in simple terms.
